Hitachi America, Ltd. Donates 7,337 Pounds of Food to The Food Bank For Westchester During Annual Hitachi North America Food Drive

Tarrytown, NY (August 20, 2010) – Hitachi America, Ltd. located in Tarrytown, NY, joined forces with Hitachi companies across North America for the 11th Annual Hitachi North America Food Drive. This year, 62 Hitachi locations from across North America participated in this annual effort to feed the hungry in their local communities.

Hitachi America, Ltd. employees at the Tarrytown headquarters donated 7,337 pounds of food to the Food Bank for Westchester located in Millwood, NY. Employees, including both the Chairman and President and CEO, participated in two food sorting and repackaging events at the food bank; one in June and again on August 20, 2010 during which they sorted the food the company had donated.

“This year’s drive is especially important given the tremendous impact the continuing economic crisis has had on our local communities,” said Lauren Garvey, Director, Branding and Corporate Communications Group. “Local agencies have experienced an increased demand for services from people from all walks of life. Many people are receiving support for the first time in their lives. Added to that, the summer is always a challenging period for families in need of assistance especially for children, many of whom receive reduced or free meals during the school year.”

The annual food drive is a cooperative effort between the Hitachi Group companies across North America and The Hitachi Foundation. Through its Hitachi Community Action Partnership (HCAP) program, the Hitachi Foundation provides a framework for employee community engagement that is supported by Hitachi group companies and aimed at empowering employees to address specific needs in their local communities.
