US Optics Selects Hitachi's DWDM and OC-192 Ultra High Speed Network Solution

ATLANTA, GA, December 2, 1999 - Hitachi Telecom (USA), Inc., today announced that US Optics, Inc., based in Los Angeles, California, will deploy Hitachi's AMN (Advanced Multiservices Network) ultra high speed optical transmission equipment, including DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and OC-192 SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) equipment, in its West Coast network.
US Optics will operate the network over the optical fiber facilities of participating utility companies. The initial deployments will be four-fiber bi-directional line-switched rings (BLSR) in the Bay Area of San Francisco and in Los Angeles. US Optics plans to expand to a nationwide backbone connecting eleven other cities within the next two years. The agreement between US Optics and Hitachi is valued at $100 million over a three-year term.
