Fujisawa Named President of Hitachi Automotive Products (USA), Inc.

BRISBANE, Calif., July 2, 2002 - Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd., (NYSE: HIT), today announced that Masaaki Fujisawa has been named president and CEO of Hitachi Automotive Products (USA), Inc. Mr. Fujisawa succeeds Taiji Hasegawa, who has returned to the Hitachi, Ltd. Automotive Products Group in Japan as general manager, Sawa Works the Automotive Products Group production facility in Hitachinaka City, Japan. The appointments were effective on June 27.

Mr. Fujisawa most recently served as executive vice president and general manager of Hitachi Automotive since August 2001. From October 2000 he served as general manager, Engineering Solutions Center, Sales Division of the Automotive Products Group of Hitachi, Ltd. Before that he served as department manager, Engine Control System Design Dept. of the Automotive Products Group. He joined Hitachi in April 1978 and was assigned to the Automotive Group's Sawa Works facility. He has a Masters degree in Information Engineering from Tohoku University.

Mr. Hasegawa has been president of Hitachi Automotive Products since 1998. He has 33 years service with Hitachi, Ltd. and previously served as deputy general manager for Research and Development in the Automotive Products Division. During his time with Hitachi he served in various managerial capacities supporting R&D activities. He has supported activities in the United States for many years from his previous positions in Japan. Mr. Hasegawa is a graduate of Hiroshima University.
