Hitachi Semiconductor's Kosei Nomiya to Return to Japan as Executive Managing Director of Kokusai Electric

SAN JOSE, Calif./TOKYO, Japan -- May 18, 2000--Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc., a subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd., today announced that its chairman, Kosei Nomiya is returning to Japan at the end of June in the position of executive managing director of Kokusai Electric Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, one of the Hitachi, Ltd. group companies. He will have global responsibility for Kokusai Electric's semiconductor process equipment business.
Dr. Peter O. Clark is currently president and CEO of Hitachi Semiconductor (America) Inc.
Mr. Nomiya has served as chairman of Hitachi Semiconductor (America) since October 1998 and as its CEO from June 1997 to October 1998. He previously was board director of Hitachi, Ltd. and general manager of the Semiconductor and IC Division of Hitachi, Ltd. He joined Hitachi, Ltd. in 1964 and is a graduate of Tohoku University.
In commenting on the announcement, Tomoharu Shimayama, president and CEO of Hitachi America, Ltd., said, "Mr. Nomiya has served in a leadership role for Hitachi's North America semiconductor operation during challenging times and we have appreciated his efforts to strengthen the business and enhance Hitachi's position in the industry."
