HITACHI AMERICA APPOINTS ELIZABETH KING VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER, SERVER SYSTEMS GROUP

BRISBANE, Calif., May 15, 2006 - Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT,) today announced that Elizabeth “Liz” King has been named vice president and general manager of the Hitachi America, Ltd., Server Systems Group. Ms. King will have responsibility for marketing, sales and customer delivery of Hitachi servers and solutions, including the Blade Symphony server line, together with associated service and support infrastructure.

Ms. King joins Hitachi with more than 20 years experience in global sales, business development, manufacturing and operations in technology companies. She joins Hitachi America from Lucent Technologies, Inc., where she most recently served as vice president, strategic alliances and new business development, global sales. Prior to Lucent, she served as director, solutions partners, global partner sales for Sun Microsystems, Inc. and before that with Raytheon Company as senior director, international business development. Previously she served with Texas Instruments in executive positions comprising international business development, sales and manufacturing operations. She has an M.B.A. from the University of Dallas and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University.

In October 2005, Hitachi Ltd. established the server systems business unit in Hitachi America Ltd., to provide server-based solutions in North America. Hitachi’s highly scalable and performance-oriented blade server platform, called “Blade Symphony” is part of Hitachi’s global IT platform business operation in North America. The unit is responsible for sales and marketing, business development, and operating a comprehensive services and support infrastructure that will serve customers on a 24x7 basis.
