Hitachi Showcases EMIEW3 Robot Technology at 2017 Halcyon Dialogue VIP Robotics Showcase

Washington, D.C., September 28, 2017 --- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501, “Hitachi”), a major IoT and manufacturing company and one of the earliest Japanese multinational corporations engaging in robotics research, will be participating in the 2017 Halcyon Dialogue VIP Robotics Showcase, an exclusive event dedicated to celebrating innovations in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics. The invitation-only event takes place today, Thursday, September 28, at Halcyon House, a non-profit, Washington DC-based incubator organization. At the event, top industry experts, leading technology companies, policymakers and scientists will gather to learn about the future of robotics and see exciting robotics technology in action through on-site demonstrations.

As part of the showcase, Hitachi will share insights on the future of the industry and demonstrate the capabilities of EMIEW3, the company’s humanoid service robot with enhanced degree of autonomy. With the brainpower of the IoT platform, Hitachi's robots can access real-time data, communicate with one another and work alongside us to improve quality of life. Hitachi’s robotics are a part of its expanding global Social Innovation Business, which aims to create novel solutions to social challenges.

EMIEW3

EMIEW3 is currently being developed to assist humans through a range of services such as customer support and guidance in public places like airports or retail outlets. EMIEW3’s technical capabilities include interacting with people through speech, and moving at the same pace as humans to guide people to targeted locations.  EMIEW3 operates in combination with a robotics IT platform deployed on the Cloud, enabling Hitachi to easily extend EMIEW3’s functions by connecting with other business systems and knowledge databases, such as those from customers.

At the Halcyon Dialogue, Hitachi, Halcyon and the American Association for the Advancement of Science will conduct a series of exciting robot demonstrations and high-level discussions of their broad implications for global society among global experts, top policy makers, and innovators from industry and academia, as well as explore the broader social implications raised by integrating robots into the everyday lives of people. Joining Hitachi at the dialogue will be other leading technology companies including Amazon Web Services, Galen Robotics and Microsoft.
